NEET biology : Reproductive health one shot Notes 2027 Chapter 3 Class 12 NCERT + PYQ
*Reproductive Health - Shot Notes for NEET*
*NCERT Chapter 3 - Class 12*
*1. Core Idea: RCH*
*RCH = Reproductive & Child Health Care Program*.
Goal: Healthy mother + healthy child. Started by Govt to reduce MMR, IMR, STDs, population explosion.
*Trick*: *RCH = Right Care for Her + Child*
*2. Problems India Faced → Solutions Given*
Problem Govt Solution
**Population Explosion** Saheli, Awareness, Contraceptives
**STDs** AIDS control program, Sex education
**Sex Abuse** POCSO Act, Counseling
**Infertility** IVF, ART centers
**Female Foeticide** Amniocentesis banned for sex detection
*3. Methods of Birth Control - Diagram Based*
*Diagram: Contraceptive Methods Flowchart*
Contraceptives
|
├─ Natural → Periodic Abstinence, Withdrawal, Lactational Amenorrhea
|
├─ Barrier → Condoms, Diaphragm, Cervical Cap, Vaults
|
├─ IUDs → Non-medicated: Lippes Loop
| Copper: CuT, Cu7, Multiload 375
| Hormonal: Progestasert, LNG-20
|
├─ Oral Pills → Saheli, Mala-D, Mala-N
|
├─ Injectables/Implants → Progestogen alone
|
└─ Surgical → Vasectomy (Male), Tubectomy (Female)
*NEET High-Yield Points:*
1. *Saheli* = Only non-steroidal pill. Taken once a week. Developed by CDRI Lucknow. Contains *Centchroman*. No side effects.
2. *Lactational Amenorrhea* = No menstruation during 6 months of intense breast feeding. Natural but effective only till 6 months.
3. *IUDs* = Ideal for females who want to delay pregnancy + space children. Cu ions suppress sperm motility + fertilizing capacity.
4. *Vasectomy vs Tubectomy*:
*Diagram: Sterilization*
Vasectomy: Vas deferens cut + tied → Sperm not in semen
Tubectomy: Fallopian tube cut + tied → Ovum not reach uterus
Note: Hormones still produced. No effect on libido.
*4. MTP = Medical Termination of Pregnancy*
Legal in India under MTP Act 1971.
Allowed up to: 12 weeks with 1 doctor, 12-24 weeks with 2 doctors.
*Why legal?* To prevent unsafe abortions + in case of rape, fetal abnormality, contraceptive failure.
*NEET Trap*: MTP is not for female foeticide. Sex determination is illegal.
*5. STDs - Sexually Transmitted Diseases*
Also called *VD = Venereal Diseases* or *RTI = Reproductive Tract Infections*.
*Bacterial*: Gonorrhea, Syphilis, Chlamydia, Chancroid → Curable if detected early.
*Viral*: Hepatitis-B, Genital Herpes, HIV-AIDS → Not curable.
*Protozoan*: Trichomoniasis
*Fungal*: Candidiasis
*HIV-AIDS Diagram: How it Spreads vs Not Spread*
Spreads By: | Does NOT Spread By:
1. Sexual contact | 1. Hugging, shaking hands
2. Blood transfusion | 2. Mosquito bite
3. Shared needles | 3. Sharing food, toilet
4. Mother to child | 4. Cough, sneeze
*6. Infertility & ART - Assisted Reproductive Technologies*
*Reason*: Physical, Congenital, Drugs, Immunological, Psychological.
*Main ART Methods:*
1. *IVF = Test Tube Baby*: Fertilization outside body in lab. Then ET.
*ET = Embryo Transfer* → ZIFT: Zygote Intra Fallopian Transfer, IUT: Intra Uterine Transfer
2. *GIFT*: Gamete Intra Fallopian Transfer. Ovum transferred to fallopian tube. For females who can’t produce ovum but can provide suitable environment.
3. *ICSI*: Intra Cytoplasmic Sperm Injection. Sperm directly injected into ovum. For male infertility.
4. *AI = Artificial Insemination*: Semen from husband/donor injected into vagina or uterus = IUI.
5. *Surrogacy*: Another female bears the child.
*Trick to Remember ART*: *IVF me ZIFT-IUT, GIFT me Gamete, ICSI me Injection, AI me Injection of Semen*
*7. Amniocentesis - The Banned Test*
*Diagram: Amniocentesis Process*
Uterus → Amniotic fluid taken by syringe
↓
Fetal cells tested
↓
Check: Chromosomal disorders like Down Syndrome
Banned for: Sex determination
Used to detect genetic disorders. Banned for sex determination due to female foeticide.
*8. 5 Questions That Direct Answer*
1. *Why is CuT considered better than Condoms for long-term use?*
Ans: CuT once inserted works for 3-5 years, no daily reminder, no interruption during coitus. Condoms need use every time.
2. *If both partners are HIV+, can their child be HIV-?*
Ans: Yes, with ART + anti-retroviral drugs during pregnancy + C-section + no breast feeding, chance of transmission <2%.
3. *Why Saheli is called "Once a week pill" but Mala-D is "Daily pill"?*
Ans: Saheli = Centchroman, non-steroidal, slow action. Mala-D = Steroidal, needs daily to maintain hormone level.
4. *Can MTP be done at 30 weeks if fetus has severe abnormality?*
Ans: Yes, after 2021 amendment, MTP allowed up to 24 weeks for special cases + anytime if Medical Board approves for substantial fetal abnormality.
5. *Why ICSI is preferred over IVF in case of low sperm count?*
Ans: IVF needs 50,000-1 lakh sperms per ovum. ICSI needs only 1 live sperm per ovum, so works in severe male infertility.
*Last Minute NEET Formula: C.S.M.A.S*
*C*ontraceptives → *S*TDs → *M*TP → *A*RT → *S*ex Education
